Harley-Davidson XR750

The XR750 is an example of more than the total of its parts, as it is a parts-bin special cobbled together to suit changing AMA dirt-track requirements. After years of dominance, Harley Davidson’s racing department was compelled to reconsider its efforts for the 1970 season.

The fact that a man with the unusual name “Evel” chose the XR750 further added to its attractiveness.

Honda CB750

Honda presented the transverse-mounted, inline-four-cylinder engine to the general public in 1969. The CB750, widely regarded as one of the first real “superbikes,” was the game-changing product of Soichiro Honda’s obsession with breaking into the American market.

Thanks to its race-proven inline-four configuration, the CB750 could easily and comfortably surpass 120 mph, providing exceptional value for money. Another widespread first that transformed the motorcycle business was front-mounted disc brakes. The icing on the cake was the electric start, kill switch, overhead camshaft, and ease of maintenance.

Ducati 900SS

Ducati produced the 864cc “square case” powered 900 Superlight to compete in the Japanese-dominated supersport market in the 1970s. The larger Desmodromic L-twin, which resembled the formidable 750 SS that Paul Smart rode to victory in Imola, was an instant success. The ’78 model would also win the renowned Isle of Man TT before graciously retiring at the top of its class. Ducati enthusiasts consider the 1978 model the most desired, thanks to its modified shifter (now on the left side of the bike) and traditional spoked wheels.

Indian Chief, 1940

For the first time, a sprung frame was used to build the ’40 Indian Chief, which comfortably outperformed Milwaukee’s best in ride and handling. The appearance of India’s iconic fenders truly set tongues wagging. The flowing skirted fenders seen on the Chief were more than just plain steel slices. They gave the bike an immediate posture and presence that was unquestionably magnificent. More than 60 years after the last real Chief rolled off the assembly line, a new breed has emerged, and they’re not half bad.

Royal Enfield Bullet

With 83 years under its belt, the Royal Enfield Bullet has the world’s longest production run. That alone merits iconic status. The first Bullet was shot in the land of tea and crumpets in 1931, with an overhead valve, single-cylinder 350cc engine that quickly made its way into the British Army and Royal Air Force. The Bullet’s basic design and surefooted performance earned it wartime honors and made it a civilian stalwart. Although production has shifted to India, the Bullet has remained practically unchanged: “Made like a gun, goes like a bullet.”

Triumph Twin Speed, 1937

Edward Turner’s Triumph Speed Twin could go down in history as the most influential motorcycle ever created. The 500cc parallel-twin put more power into a smaller and narrower compact than the current crop of single-cylinder thumpers. Every competitor’s model would have a variation of this engine within a decade. The original’s gold pinstriping and Amaranth red paint made the mechanicals stand out, while the fuel tank design set a precedent that is still followed today. The bike that insured Triumph’s survival after WWII would later grow into the Bonneville, another legend on my list.

Harley-Davidson WL

The V-Twin engine is synonymous with Harley-Davidson. Their Flathead-powered WL cycle sealed the Bar and Shield’s iconic prominence at home and abroad. Knuckleheads, Panheads, and Shovelheads are all early manifestations of the Motor Company’s ongoing commitment to the ubiquitous 45-degree power plant.

The WL was Harley-contribution Davidson to World War II, with around 90,000 bikes enrolled for American field duty alone. Soldiers from Canada, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Russia came to know and love the WL, and many wanted to take them home after their tour. This flood of newly released Hogs is responsible for the tremendous expansion in motorcycle culture that America (and the rest of the globe) would embrace and revere for the following 75 years.

Honda CB77

Honda’s first sportbike was the CB77, also known as the Superhawk. The CB77’s 305cc parallel twin could effortlessly rev to nine grand and easily send riders over “the tonne” (a.k.a. 100 mph). The frame was made of tubular steel rather than pressed steel, with the motor serving as a stressed part to save weight and make the CB77 extremely flickable. Honda’s dependability created and solidified the Japanese manufacturer’s reputation in the Western world.

Ducati PS1000LE 

The Ducati PS1000LE, created to celebrate Paul Smart’s first-place finish in Imola on his 1972 Ducati 750SS, is the most beautiful way to pay tribute to someone. The Paul Smart model, based on their Sport Classic line, pushed Pierre Terblanche’s design to the next level. The traditional bubble-shield front fairing, wire-spoked wheels, and green trellis frame contrast with the ultramodern Ohlins suspension and wide Pirelli tires. The PS1000LE, produced in limited numbers and just for one year, may be one of the most collectible Ducatis ever constructed.

BMW R60/2

The R60 was BMW’s go-anywhere, do-anything tourer of the 1960s, and it was on the market for 13 years. Originally intended for sidecar duties, the combination of a punchy flat twin and Earle’s fork design resulted in a very capable bike on and off the road. The R60 was so powerful that rider Danny Liska took it on a 95,000-mile journey from the Arctic Circle to the end of South America. Then he resolved to pave the way for Boorman and McGregor by trekking from Northern Europe to South Africa’s Cape of Good Hope — without a support team, satellite phone, GPS, or foreign fixers.

1927 Royale Bugatti

The Royale came before the Veyron. And that was quite the beast. Ever the dreamer, Ettore Bugatti envisioned the most luxurious car in the world – one of the rarest cars – with 25 manufactured to be offered almost exclusively to royalty, of which there were far more in the 1920s. Due to the Great Depression, just seven films were produced. Six are still alive since Bugatti is said to have wrecked the seventh. The radiator cap has a stylized elephant.

1953 Porsche 550 Spyder 

Every film enthusiast will tell you that the 550 Spyder is the Porsche in which James Dean died when it crashed on the route to a racetrack. This grim story has imbued every 550 Spyder with an aura that makes them all the more desirable and likely to be replicated. Only 90 cars were built then, and all were intended to compete. They won class at the Le Mans 24-hour race and the gruelling Mexican Carrera Panamericana, which gave its name to subsequent fast Porsches. This is the pinnacle of fatal glamour.

1957 Jaguar XKSS 

Jaguar’s racing D-Type was all-conquering in its day, winning the Le Mans 24-Hour race on multiple occasions. The XKSS was its road-going cousin, designed by Jaguar head Sir William Lyons, to use surplus D-Type chassis after the British automaker exited motor racing. Only 25 were planned, but only 16 were completed when a manufacturing fire destroyed the other nine. Jaguar has now produced those nine in a so-called continuation series. The super-rare automobiles sold promptly for around $1 million each.

1960 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato 

Zagato is an Italian coachbuilder that aims to restyle and improve current high-end sports cars. Their work on the beautiful DB4 resulted in an exquisite, curving super-light GT with several weight-saving materials like perspex and aluminium. Bumpers were deemed unnecessary. Zagato intended to build 25 of these British/Italian super-GTs, but due to low demand, only 20 were built. Many replicas exist: prepare to pay $18 million for the original and then bask in the perfection of this ultra-rare auto-sculpture.

1970 Porsche 917 

The 917 was released in the 1970s and remained one of the most successful car racers of all time – probably one of the most recognizable. Built without compromise for the track, it won the Le Mans 24-Hour race for Porsche and gained additional recognition when driven by Steve McQueen in the ‘Le Mans’ film. Porsche still owns many 917s and keeps them running as museum pieces. Although the 917 is not the best automobile for a shopping run, three have been modified for road use. Form naturally follows function.

1986 Testarossa Spider by Ferrari

The Testarossa was a tribute to the 1980s, a broad-shouldered supercar that preferred side-finned bravado above elegance. At the time, the Fiat corporation owned Ferrari, and its chairman, Gianni Agnelli, decided to own his Testarossa, but without the roof. The Italian manufacturer compiled and re-engineered the Testarossa to be sturdy enough to be a convertible. The colour scheme was clear because Ag is the silver chemical symbol and the first letters of Agnelli’s name. The prancing horse logo is present, correct, and in genuine silver. Beware of forgeries: only one Testarossa Spider was produced.

1989 Cizeta-Moroder V16T 

Giorgio Moroder is not just a disco legend, with his work with Donna Summer effectively defining the genre, but also a vehicle enthusiast. He saw early concepts for a supercar by Lamborghini Countach designer Marcello Gandini and wanted to be a part of the project. The Cizeta changed to Cizeta-Moroder, powered by an almost unbelievable bespoke V16 engine. The motoring partners split up, and just one Cizeta – out of nine – was labelled a Cizeta-Moroder, purchased by the king of disco himself. This one-of-a-kind automobile just sold for slightly more than $1.2 million. Guess what’s playing on the car stereo?

1995 McLaren F1 LM 

Gordon Murray’s seminal design for the McLaren F1 was notably free of financial limitations. Because gold is the best at deflecting heat, it was used to line engine bays. The F1 is still one of the quickest production vehicles ever, and the LM version is even faster. Six LMs were built as road-going homage after the racing version, the F1 GTR, achieved remarkable success in the famed French event. McLaren kept one LM, giving you five to select from, all in the firm’s characteristic Papaya orange.

2009 Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita 

Supercar eccentrics from Sweden Koenigsegg only produces a few automobiles. A hundred of a specific model is extremely rare. When it comes to the Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita, that number has dropped slightly: only two were produced, solidifying its place as one of the world’s rarest cars. They are easy to steer, and you can run them with fun; all in all, an electric scooter can be your “Ride for Life.” As long as you maintain it! And, not to mention, for that, you’ll have to understand your e-scooter to the core! So, let me break down all parts of an electric scooter for you…

Deck

Come on, this is where you stand and enjoy scooting: the platform, and these are different according to the brand and type of e-scooter. If I’ll have to explain to you in general, have you seen a skateboard? Inane! Of course, you have. So it is more like a skateboard but can be rubberized, i.e., for better propulsion while riding. The size of a scooter’s deck may vary, some provide extra space to keep your feet, and some are textured to provide additional grip to stand on! Standard scooter’s deck size ranges 14″ by 5″ and has a ride height of a few inches.

Handlebars

This is where you hold hand-in-hand with a very friend of yours… I intend, from where you hold your e-scooter. Handlebars are basically the handles that provide you hold to the scooter with all controls. The handle consists of all controls like accelerator, brakes, speed/settings display, and power buttons. The most astonishing part about handlebars is their folding feature! By reducing the width of handles, you can get the scooter down to a moveable and storable size. Easy to carry, easy to store, what else do you need?

Tires & Wheels

Yes, don’t get confused with both; they are connected yet different! Wheels are the circular metal component bolted to the scooter hub through an axle. And the tires are basically the rubber casing attached to the wheels—tires of an e-scooter influence, traction, ride quality, range, and braking performance.

Stem

As the name suggests, the stem is the middle connecting truck connecting handlebars to the front wheels. This long foldable tube is connected to the scooter’s front wheel that extends up to handlebars.

Motor

The motors used in electric scooters are BLDC (Electric scooters have brushless direct current) powered by a direct current to automate the scooter electronically. It is placed in the front wheel, but mostly electric scooters these days have hub motors built into both wheels. When it comes to rating electric motors, they are being rated in terms of their power consumption which is expressed in units of watts. Greater the wattage, the more powerful motors are!

Brakes

To stop, reduce speed, avoid a collision, enable you to drive faster, obvs! Question yourself: Can you dare to accelerate, go fast, and reach the destinations we desire without brakes? A big no! THat is why electric scooters are made with a quality braking system, i.e., Disc brakes. And mostly all-electric scooters come with both mechanical and electronic braking systems.

Controllers

These are electronic components buried inside the scooter that monitors current flow from the scooter’s battery to the motor. The controller basically sends power to the motor based on accelerator input! Sadly, controllers are one of the most under-appreciated parts of a scooter because they function silently most of the time.

Lights

Of course, swag, deck, and especially headlights are necessary; I mean, how would you ride in the dark? Swag light basically gives this cool look to your scooter!

The battery of an electric scooter is an assembly of multiple cells that acts as a powerhouse of the scooter. Electric motor, lights, and other accessories of a scooter consume energy for the batter, so eventually, they play a role of a “gas tank.”

It’s good If you prefer regular maintenance of your scooter taking it to a service center. What’s the point in spending huge at a service station when you can fix it yourself plus, you’ll save a lot of money too. All you need is basic knowledge, essential tools/equipment, and the ability to recognize potential faults. Clean, clean, clean!

A pocket-friendly approach: Spending on a new scooter is way better than maintaining it before the actual flaws show off. All you have to do is regular monitoring, servicing, and fixing if needed!

Eliminate vulnerability: “Life is full of uncertainty” Eliminating vulnerabilities helps to deal better with uncertainty ahead; I mean to deal with risks while riding your electric scooter. Though it’s all up to our control, we can’t be sure about a vehicle’s mechanical composition. Well, cars have seat belts and airbags, but if scooters are not maintained, that might result in a direct mishap.
