Whether you want immersive single-player adventures, chaotic multiplayer matches, or engaging collective experiences, the PS4 has a game for you. Of course, it’s easy to see why. The PlayStation 4 has been available for seven years, during which time it has amassed a library of thousands of games. Furthermore, because Sony has led the way in exclusive titles, the PS4 is the only way to experience new classics such as God of War (2018), The Last Of Us, and Death Stranding.

Of course, the PS4 won’t last forever, and the PS5 is already on the way to take its place. Don’t worry; most PS4 titles are playable on Sony’s new console thanks to widespread backward compatibility. You’ll have the technology to play these games right away or save them for later.

God Of War (2018)

The God of War series is back after a five-year hiatus, and it’s very different. Kratos, formerly a living ball of rage, is now a family man, attempting to reconcile his suicidal past with his love for his adolescent son, Atreus. Kratos has moved from Greece to Scandinavia, which means, among other things, a whole new set of mythical beasts to slay. Kratos’ new enemies constantly put his skills to the test, from trolls and ogres to undead horrors and even Norse gods.

While the plot questions whether Kratos’ violent past was fully justified, the gameplay remains as satisfying and visceral as ever, pitting the demigod against trolls, sea monsters, and dragons. It’s a daring new direction for a beloved series, and it’s easily one of the best action/adventure games on the PS4.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

The latest installment in Ubisoft’s long-running action/stealth series, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, is another solid one. This time, you’ll play Eivor, a Viking warrior in medieval England who needs to find a new home for his clan. You’ll travel through various kingdoms, eliminate key targets, fight dangerous Saxons, and even participate in Viking battles known as “flyting.”

While Assassin’s Creed Valhalla looks and plays great on the PS4, your purchase also includes a PS5 version with improved lighting, richer HDR colors, and a smoother frame rate. Your saved data will also be carried over, but transferring achievements can be demanding.

Devil May Cry 5

Capcom has finally released a sequel worthy of the wait eleven years after Devil May Cry 4. Devil May Cry 5 is a confident, stylish action game that will please long-term fans while welcoming newcomers. You’ll fight enormous, grotesque foes as the supernatural warriors Dante, Nero, and V, using a gorgeous combination of gunplay, swordplay, and platforming. It can be a difficult game to master, but combat becomes its own reward once you do.

Devil May Cry 5 is an incredible, rewarding experience that is worth a look if you’ve ever enjoyed the series. The gameplay is especially enjoyable because as you rack up more combos, the soundtrack changes and becomes more elaborate to reflect your success. If you’re a newbie or noob, you can catch up with previous titles in the Devil May Cry: HD Collection, also available on PS4.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn has it all: an intriguing open world, a creative story, a relatable protagonist, a wide range of challenges, and, of course, a slew of giant robot dinosaurs. With a bow and arrow and a variety of melee and ranged weapons, you’ll be able to take down these massive beasts and a variety of human enemies.

Horizon Zero Dawn tells the story of Aloy, a pariah from her tribe who nonetheless becomes a master of the bow and spear in a post-apocalyptic world that has had time to become lush once more. As she investigates the dangerous world around her, she discovers that she could play a critical role in changing it for the better. It’s one of the best action/adventure games on the PS4, but it’s also available on PC.

The Last Of Us, Part II

The Last of Us, Part II, is an ambitious follow-up to a well-received game. As a result, it was always going to be divisive — which is probably exactly what the developers intended. In this post-apocalyptic action/adventure game, you play as Ellie, who embarks on an epic revenge quest across the ruins of the western United States. Ellie, now grown up and elevated from “sidekick” to “protagonist,” must rely on her abilities to determine when (or if) revenge crosses the line from “necessity” to “obsession.”

The Last of Us 2’s story is full of interesting twists and turns, but the gameplay backs it up beautifully. The Last of Us 2 employs large, creative levels and intelligent enemies of both the human and Infected varieties, as well as numerous ways to customize and upgrade Ellie and many options for stealth, combat, and exploration. It’s easy to see why The Last of Us 2 is one of the best action/adventure games on the PS4, with stunning graphics and moving voice acting.

Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat has had its ups and downs over the years, but Mortal Kombat 11 shows that the series is still full of surprises. Rather than seeing who can memorize the most super-moves or how quickly players can mash an attack button, this game emphasizes distance, variety, and the judicious use of limited super-moves. Mortal Kombat 11 features refined, strategic one-on-one fights, a solid story mode, and tonnes of unlockable single-player content.

Depending on your tolerance, this may be a selling point or a deal breaker, but it’s good to know that the series has yet to tone down over the years. Of course, Mortal Kombat’s trademark gore is back in full force, with some extremely over-the-top fatalities that will put even the toughest stomachs to the test. Overall, MK11 is a fantastic fighting game that has something for everyone.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition

You may have previously played the games in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, but never with this level of polish. This collection includes Mass Effect, Mass Effect part 2, and other parts, as well as nearly all of the DLC packs for those games. (The first game’s Pinnacle Station appears to have been lost to the whims of time, but everything else is present and accounted for.) If you haven’t played the Mass Effect games before, now is a great time to start — and if you have, now is a good time to go back and play them again.

For those unfamiliar with Mass Effect, it is a trilogy of sci-fi RPGs developed by BioWare. You customize Commander Shepard, a military hero, and then assemble a team of human and alien experts from all over the galaxy. You face off against the Reapers, a race of synthetic organisms bent on eradicating all sentient life in the Milky Way galaxy. The plot is largely determined by whether you want to play as a rule-abiding Paragon or a vigilante Renegade.

Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima’s pitch makes it sound like an Assassin’s Creed game. It is an open-world action/stealth game with a real-world history-based story. You take control of Jin Sakai, a samurai who fights against the Mongol invasion of Japan in the 13th century. Where Ghost of Tsushima differs from other open-world adventures is in its incredible sword-fighting. The combat in the game is simply outstanding, with numerous techniques, gadgets, and strategies to master.

The game can drag a little in the middle as it leans heavily on familiar sandbox tropes like collecting doodads, solving mild platforming puzzles, riding horses, etc. Despite its breadth, the game is admirably deep, with numerous ways to customize your character. It also has a good story about honor, duty, and sacrifice, all appropriate themes for a samurai story.

Death Stranding

Death Stranding is, without a doubt, one of the strangest games to be released in 2019. But it’s also one of the system’s games, especially if you like Hideo Kojima’s unique brand of unhinged futurism. The titular “Death Stranding” unleashed an extradimensional race, raising existential questions about life, death, and the nature of power in the post-apocalyptic world. You play as Sam Bridges, who delivers supplies to survivors on a post-apocalyptic Earth.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Death Stranding is its understated gameplay. A lot of it is simply getting from one place to another and building infrastructure to make your trips more convenient. How well your deliveries go will influence how you can level up Sam, allowing you to carry more items and build your reputation with non-player characters.

Elden Ring

You play as a Tarnished, an adventurer on a dangerous quest to defeat four demigods and rebuild a powerful artifact known as the Elden Ring. Elden Ring is a spiritual successor to the Dark Souls series, with similar gameplay but a very different structure. Elden Ring, rather than a series of open-ended levels, takes place in a massive open world with many optional areas to explore and secrets to discover.

Elden Ring, like other FromSoftware games, is extremely difficult. Bosses can kill you in one or two hits, while regular opponents require three or four. On the other hand, the combat is exquisitely precise, encouraging you to hone your skills and strategies over time. You can level up your character however you want and outfit them with a wide range of inspired gear. Elden Ring could keep you occupied for dozens of hours, so if it sounds appealing, now is the time to start.

Conclusion

There’s no special way to choose the best PS4 games. It all depends on what kinds of music you like the most. A lot of these games, like God of War, and Horizon Zero Dawn, are action/adventure games. Some of these games take place in an open world, while others are more linear. Either way, if you buy a first-person, third-person game, it’s almost certain to be good.

Mario

One of the most iconic and popular games of all time is Mario. Remember jumping on the insects, throwing fireballs, and collecting coins & special items? There are many coins scattered around for Mario to collect, as well as special bricks marked with a question mark, which, when Mario hits, may reveal more coins or a special item. Mario has to save the Princess that Bowser has captured. Mario should flag the pole after completing the level. Remember the shortcut we use to skip the levels and go through. Going through many different levels and defeating many bosses, you have to reach the final level where the Princess is waiting to be rescued. What an epic game it is, isn’t it?

Had a craze for shooting? Then, Contra would be on the top of your list. Take a step back in this old-school side-scrolling shooter game and get gritty! In Contra, shoot all your enemies while avoiding being shot! The player proceeds to assault an island fortress, destroying everything that moves.

Contra is a classic 1987 side-scrolling shooter with an infamous difficulty level. Although easier than other titles on the same console, this game is considered an entry-level arcade gamer title. Monsters appear out of nowhere! In Snow Bros: Nick and Tom, you can send them back to oblivion by turning them into snowballs and squashing the others! You need to get power-ups and easily defeat all monsters.

Snow Bros Video Game Poster

Snow Bros is a classic 1990 platform arcade game with gameplay reminiscent of the popular Bubble Bobble. In the game, two snowmen, Nick and Tom, try to defeat enemies and throw snowballs at them. When an enemy is covered in snow, it transforms into a snowball that can be rolled and bounced off the walls. Enemies who are hit by a rolling giant snowball will also be eliminated. Fight a boss after every ten levels. Each level concludes when all enemies have been defeated. Today’s games will never have that touch of 90’s video games.

Tetris

Another entertaining game on the list. Tetris was originally developed as an arcade game. Video games, pinball machines, electromechanical games, redemption games, and merchandisers are the most common arcade games. While exact dates are debatable, the golden age of arcade video games is generally defined as a period beginning in the late 1970s and ending in the mid-1980s.

Except for the traditional Midway-type games at county fairs, almost all modern arcade games extensively use solid-state electronics, integrated circuits, and cathode-ray tube screens. Historically, coin-operated arcade video games used custom per-game hardware, frequently with multiple CPUs, highly specialized sound and graphics chips, and the most expensive computer graphics display technology. This enabled arcade system boards to produce more complex graphics and sound than possible on video game consoles or personal computers.

Aliens are kidnapping cute girls once more! It’s Higgins’ girlfriend this time. In Adventure Island, join Higgins on his quest to save his girl! If you think the stories of Tarzan and the Jungle Book are overrated, try the Adventure Island game! Set out on a quest to save Higgins’ girlfriend and team up with prehistoric creatures.

Adventure Island

Adventure Island is a classic side-scrolling platformer game. In this game, Higgins’ girlfriend Tina has been abducted by a mysterious flying saucer. Higgins must now travel through eight different islands to track down the aliens. He must save his girlfriend from danger with the help of his prehistoric friends.

Duck Hunt

Think of the remote gun you used to have to play this game. Shooting the ducks and, if you fail, an annoying dog sneaking out of the bushes. Remember how offending the dog was? Duck Hunt is a fantastic arcade game based on the original classic shooting games. You must use your mouse to shoot the moving ducks down and see how many points you can get.

The graphics are reminiscent of early consoles, and the gameplay is tremendously enjoyable. The hunting is enjoyable, and the controls for aiming and firing your weapon are simple to learn. Avoid shooting your loyal dog, and aim your weapon quickly!

Street Fighter

Street Fighter, another legendary arcade game, was a fighting game gem from the 1990s. The player controls martial artist Ryu as he competes in a global martial arts tournament spanning five countries and ten opponents. The game was also known for the fictional rivalry between martial arts masters Ryu and Ken.

Tekken

Tekken features fights between two characters, each with their health bar, a colored bar at the top of the screen that decreases when a player is injured. When the gauge is completely depleted, the player is knocked out, and the round is over. Beginners can easily understand the game because it is very simple. The game system is based on four buttons, each corresponding to a character.

Pac Man

You must have played the timeless classic that started it all! As you control the beloved Pacman, collect dots, earn points, avoid ghosts, and eat strawberries!

You must navigate the map with the arrow keys and collect dots to earn points. Avoid the four ghosts by collecting the power ball, which renders them defenseless for a few seconds. These ghosts can be eaten for points once they are defenseless. Eaten ghosts will be revived once their eyes return to the center room. Pacman starts with only three lives but can earn more as he progresses through the levels. Strawberries occasionally appear in the center and can be eaten for extra points.

Aladdin

Nothing beats classic games and stories like Aladdin from Disney! This classic game explores many levels inspired by the film’s events! Jump through the streets, explore the wonders of caves and sands, and finally battle the evil Jafar.

You’ll enjoy this classic game with a fair amount of challenge. The game is intended for children but is also enjoyable for adults. Follow the events of the Disney film Aladdin and his pet monkey Abu. Play as Aladdin and experience the events of the film! Run through the marketplace and go forth to fulfill your destiny. Make your dreams come true and meet the lovely Princess Jasmine.

Excite Bike

You can still hear his mocking laughter as he flattens your foot like a road bunny. Will you finally exact your vengeance? Will your Arch Rival triumph in the end? Again.

One of the most loved bike games. Excite bike is one of those games that every child must have played. The sound of the starting gun sends your heart racing, and adrenaline rushes through your veins as you accelerate ahead of the pack. You’ve been working on your course design for years and have found a winner: a course of death-defying daredevil jumps of all kinds. Your goal is to exact revenge on Arch Rival, who humiliated you in the previous Excitebike race.

Circus Charlie

Circus Charlie is an action/platform game where the player controls a clown named Charlie. Charlie must complete six regular stages (plus a different stage) of varying tasks in the game. Charlie points are earned by grabbing money bags, performing dangerous tricks, avoiding enemies, completing stages, and so on. After completing the sixth stage, the game restarts at a faster pace and with more difficult levels. Charlie is also racing against the clock. Bonus points are awarded based on the remaining time, but running out of time will result in the player’s death.

Bomberman

Bomberman Gameplay Picture

Bomberman is an early game that was released in the 1980s. The Bomberman character and brand have been enormously successful, and many games have been created using this specific type of gameplay. The Bomberman concept typically entails the player navigating a series of mazes. These mazes are obstructed by various obstacles and opponents, which you can destroy with your trusty bombs! You can collect various power-ups and special abilities throughout the levels to help you progress. You always have to keep an eye on your bomb blast to ensure you don’t blow yourself up!

Ice Climber

Take your hammer, exit your igloo, and get that eggplant! Smash those yetis, polar bears, and condors in Ice Climber, a classic platformer game! Collect other vegetables and smash as many rocks as possible to earn the most points.

Ice Climber is a vertical-scrolling platformer game from 1985 in which you control an Eskimo wielding a wooden hammer. In this game, a giant condor has stolen your eggplant and taken it to the top of the mountain! You must grab your gear and set out to recover the vegetable. Climb the 32 levels of an ice-covered mountain to recover stolen vegetables and bring that condor back to earth! Have a good time!

Road Fighter

Road Fighter Game Play Picture

Road Fighter has a little going for it regarding gameplay as an arcade-style racing game. You only need to get to the end with the highest possible score. The issue is that everything along the way wants you to fail! When you collide with another vehicle, you begin to spin. You can hit the opposite direction and sometimes stop the spinning if your reflexes are quick enough. This, along with going off the track, causes your racing to come to a halt, which can be extremely frustrating. The most frustrating aspect of the game is the method by which you must obtain fuel. You have enough fuel to last 99 seconds! So you’re concerned about fuel from the start. You can drive into a fuel car to get fuel, but it can be very frustrating if you miss one, as 99/100 means the game is over. That is all there is to the gameplay; it is alright or anything, but very basic.

Wrapping It Up

I have spent most of my time playing Mario and Contra on my console video game. These were a few iconic and popular games most of us have enjoyed. Let me know in the comments which game you used to play. Also, you can mention the games apart from this list you have enjoyed playing in your childhood.
