Is ChatGPT The Next Big Challenger To Google’s Search Market?

ChatGPT The Next Big Challenger To Google's Search Market

Any technology that challenges Google gets people’s attention immediately. ChatGPT, which is considered to be a potential threat to the Google search market, has gotten this attention lately.

ChatGPT’s mere arrival has bamboozled the technology industry. Mainly Google, as it will be the main competition of ChatGPT. Though ChatGPT is in the development phase, it is being appreciated by the users.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is an AI chatbot that provides conversational results that are more user-centric. It understands the individuality of a user and shows results that are unique for each individual. On the contrary, Google provides results based on keywords to the user.

The chatbot is developed by OpenAI, an independent AI research organization. It was founded by Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, and Reid Hoffman.

ChatGPT was launched in November 2022 with the purpose of providing a more human-like AI experience.

Why Is It Being Compared With Google?

Google is more than a search engine. For many decades it has dominated the search market. How astonishing it feels whenever you are thinking about something, and when you search on Google, it just completes your entire sentence. Not just once, but it happens many times. All thanks to the Google AI system, which understands its users.

But sometimes, no matter how much you try, it feels impossible to get the appropriate answer. In this scenario, ChatGPT comes into the picture, which will provide personalized and conversational results. This means the chatbot AI is directly hitting Google, where it lags sometimes. But remember, it is no threat to Google’s existence. It will particularly affect the monopoly of the search market.

Is ChatGPT Free?

Indeed this question needs a clear answer. For now, the answer is yes. But as it is in the development phase, the future of the chatbot is uncertain. Dall-E, another venture of OpenAI, has been free for some time. OpenAI will charge you once you exceed the free limit. This can be a clear indication that they will charge users for ChatGPT as well.

What Are The Restrictions?

OpenAI created ChatGPT with one purpose, which is to serve humanity with better artificial intelligence. If you try to ask anything discriminatory, the chatbot is not going to respond. This includes searches that are sexist, homophobic, racist, misogynistic, inappropriate, or hateful. Plus, asking the chatbot illegal questions is also restricted.

Does ChatGPT Offer More Privacy?

The Google search engine provides results based on keywords, browser history, and user data. This method is more intrusive. But ChatGPT provides results with natural language processing. This means it doesn’t track keywords or search history. This way, you can expect more privacy protection from ChatGPT as it might not collect that much personal data.

ChatGPT provides intuitive and conversational answers. You can ask the chatbot follow-up questions and maintain the flow of conversation. This way, you have a series of answers without jumping from one page to another.

Benefits Of ChatGPT

  • It can help you improve your writing style. You can use ChatGPT for writing essays, songs, and more based on the prompt.
  • It can help you write code and debug codes as well. It can be really hectic to find a small bug in a code. With the help of ChatGPT, you can accelerate the debugging process. ChatGPT is still in the developing phase, but it is doing wonders in helping developers to write better codes.
  • The chatbot can help you learn complex things easily. It can simplify complex topics in a more understandable manner.
  • It can help you manage and manipulate data. ChatGPT can convert unstructured data into a manageable format.

What Are The Drawbacks Of ChatGPT?

The information provided by the chatbot is not always correct. What’s even more confusing is that it can sound authoritative, which makes you believe it is correct. Ensure the information is correct by cross-checking with original sources.

The chatbot doesn’t know everything. You can pretty much ask anything, but there is a possibility that it won’t be able to provide an answer. In this scenario, it might try to mingle information that can be incorrect. So don’t trust the AI blindly.

Is It Capable Of Replacing Google Search?

ChatGPT itself answers this question by saying that it is not like the Google search engine. This means it is not designed to do tasks like searching or answering questions like a search engine. At least for a while, it won’t impose any threat to search engines. Plus, as mentioned above, the information provided by the chatbot might sound authoritative, but it can be incorrect. Indeed the future of ChatGPT is uncertain, but it will push Google and other search engines to do better.

Can Google Develop AI like ChatGPT?

People might be astonished by ChatGPT and might think it can run over Google. But this is not the case; Google is very deep into AI. So why not implement any new AI technology like ChatGPT? Mainly because it can disrupt the Google business model. Google revenue heavily relies on the ad business, and the chatbot provides direct answers, which are not ideal for adding sponsored ads.

This can result in the end of ad-based monetization as people will expect only direct answers from the chatbot. It can wipe out revenue worth billions.

It also poses a threat to genuine information as the chatbot tries to mingle data to provide an answer. Though ChatGPT doesn’t provide answers to inappropriate questions, but it might do so.

Conclusion

ChatGPT has certainly made a big impact on the technology industry. People are fascinated by it and are making many assumptions about its future. Is it going to be the biggest rival of the Google search market? How will it affect ad marketing? There are a lot of queries that need to be answered. But for now, you have to wait as the ChatGPT is in the development phase. But, it will certainly push other tech giants to do better in the field of chatbot AI.
